This angel pin was designed in remembrance of a wonderful grandfather by his grandaughter Kim.  

She wrote:

My grandfather just passed away in July and this will be our first Christmas without him. We were a very close family. Anytime we had "family get togethers", it would be just the 12 of us. Paw paw, Meme, my Mom & Dad, My Aunt and Uncle, my brother, my sister, my 3 cousins and me. We didn't have big get togethers for holidays, it was just us. My paw paw loved his 6 grandchildren so much. He attended games, dance recitals, and even awards days. He was the best! We (Paw paw, Meme, my Mom & Dad,my brother, my sister, my boyfriend, my bothers girlfriend and I) were all supposed to go to Hawaii this summer. After he had surgery on his foot in around March, it was pretty much all downhill from there. As it got closer to July, he knew he wasn't going to be able to make it to Hawaii and was very upset about it. He still wanted the rest of us to go. I got a phone call from my mom, the morning before we were supposed to get on the plane, that my paw paw had died. He had been having heart trouble for about 20 years, but he was only 67 years old. It seems like ever since then, bad things have been happening. My family was affected by hurricane Rita. My Meme's shop was badly damaged. I wanted to see if you could come up with some kind of angel in memory of my paw paw. I would love to give it to my family members this Christmas.

 It is only 7:45 and you have already made my day! I think my family will all be so touched by this! He liked hunting, fishing, he loved his 6 grandchildren, his birthday was in March. My mom and dad have some pecan trees by their house and he used to go pick them up, shell them, and then put them in Ziplocs and give them to us. When we were looking for caskets, there was one actually made of wood and they called it Pecan. We almost got that b/c of the whole pecan thing but then found out that it didn't seal off. He was a big believer in the rosary. He was a great father and an even better grandfather. You might want to even incorporate something with a heart. He had his first heart attack at 47 and had trouble for the next 20 years. I even think the reason he died was b/c his heart just stopped beating. Something else may be something having to do with Hawaii. That was his dream. He wanted to go before he died, but didn't make it. I forgot to tell you this in the first email. My Meme and Paw paw 47th wedding anniversary was the day before he died. He wanted to make sure that he hung in there for her until after that day. It was really a shock that he died. He was in the hospital a lot, but he always came home, so we thought this time would be the same. I think the last thing that my Meme said as she was leaving the hospital was,"Come home." 

I designed this angel pin with a lot of details of the emails I received from Kim. I placed a fish on one wing for his love of hunting and fishing and a pecan tree twig across the other wing to represent the pecan tree that she remembered.  I placed a silver heart on the bottom of the skirt with 6 small golden hearts placed within it to represent the 6 grandchildren whom he loved so much. I placed a lei around his neck for the trip to Hawaii that he was suppose to take with his birthstone on the middle flower.
